What Are the Benefits of Bamboo Fabric?

Bamboo fabric is only increasing in popularity. But do you know why? There are a great many wonderful benefits of using bamboo fabric, both for the environment and for our comfort, and today we’ll be looking at 7 of them.

Eco-friendly

Bamboo fabric is one of the most sustainable fabrics available. The environmentally-friendly benefits of bamboo fabric are:

  • It’s long lasting, making it a more sustainable option than other fabrics
  • Bamboo reduces greenhouse gases more than trees
  • It needs much less water to grow than more mainstream fabrics such as cotton
  • Bamboo doesn’t have any natural pests, so it doesn’t need pesticides in order to grow

To find out more about how bamboo fabric is good for the planet, take a look at our blog, The Environmental Benefits of Bamboo Fabric.

Versatile

Bamboo fabric is versatile. It can be used for bedding, clothing, underwear, blankets, towels, and more. The versatility of bamboo fabric, and other bamboo products, means that it’s here to stay and is offering more and more eco-friendly alternatives to mainstream products.

Antibacterial & antifungal

Bamboo is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so bamboo fabric is antibacterial as well. This is because it has an antibacterial and antifungal bio-agent called bamboo Kun. Kun limits the growth of bacteria on the bamboo fibres. Not only does this benefit you as you use the fabric, it’s also beneficial for the environment because damaging antimicrobial chemical treatments don’t need to be used on bamboo fabric.

Hypoallergenic

Those who have sensitive skin will be pleased to know that bamboo fabric is hypoallergenic. This means it is unlikely to cause allergic reactions in people, even if they have sensitive skin. Because bamboo fabric is hypoallergenic, it’s kinder to your skin than other fabrics.

UV resistant

Bamboo fabric is the only natural fabric in the world to boast UV resistance. It’s no secret that UV (ultraviolet) rays can cause a lot of damage to humans, such as causing certain types of cancers, but bamboo fabric can actually protect us against them. For example, wearing bamboo fabric clothing will block some harmful rays coming into contact with you, as will using bamboo curtains in your home.

Temperature regulating

A big benefit of bamboo fabric (and bamboo bedding in particular) is that it is insulating and helps to regulate your body temperature. It keeps your body cool when the temperature is warm, and warm when the temperature is cool.

Moisture wicking

If a fabric is ‘moisture wicking’, it means it can move moisture (such as sweat) away from surfaces and away from itself, too. Bamboo fabric is moisture wicking, so it helps to keep you dry, even if you’re sweating.

Lune Living creates quality bamboo fabric bedding for adults and children. Our bamboo bedding (and other bamboo fabric accessories) are kind to your skin and kind to the planet.
